White Gold Rings?
my wedding rings from friedmans jewelry store is white gold and they said it would not change to yellow this is the second set i have gotten (the first is the exact same set) has turned yellow gold has this happed to anyone else my sister in law got hers from the same store and its whte gold as well and it has not changed and she has had her ring longer then i have i have had my new set for about a month and its already changing
i work in an office no chems around just computers and pen and paper, im not taking any meds nothing never have and i dont wear it to wish dishes take showers put make up on or put lotion on
all right i am a jeweler and the reason your ring si turning yellow is because almost all white gold rings are plated in a form of platinum called rhodium eventually it will happen to all white gold jewelry it will turn yellowish because it is made from gold which is yellow and then has other materials added to it like nickel and when the plating wears away the true slightly yellowish color will show through the only ways to avoid this is to get the ring replated often which will end up being expensive because at aprox $30 each time that will add up or you can return the ring and get the same ring in a different material palladium is good its another form of platinum but less expensive it probably rates around the price range of 18k white gold but because it is a pure white metal it never needs to be replated and will not turn yellow ever.or you could get platinum which is pure white but is more expensive and a heaver metal but again will not turn yellow ever or the last option is to not let the normal wear and tear happen so quickly wear and tear is anything from putting on clothes mittens typing digging ditches any rubbing on the ring will cause it to loose miniscule amounts of metal most not visable to the naked eye but after time its effects are obvious the yellowing you are seeing i dont know what to say about your sister in laws ring but perhaps she is not as rough on her jewelery and that is why its white has lasted longer also it could be a different karat of gold 10-14-18 or it could have a different alloy in it some jewelers now add palladium as an allow to gold and it seems to stay whiter longer but because it is alloyed with gold it will eventually turn slighty yellow but nowhere near the yellow color of most white golds talk to your jeweler see if they know what it is alloyed with or if they will offer your same ring in a different metal you may have to pay the difference between the metal values but i think overall you will be happier i hope this helps you (spell check isnt working sorry about any mistakes)
