Asian bridal jewellery is a mix of tradition and modernism
Wedding has a special place in anyone's heart. These feelings transcend borders and genders. The only difference is in culture and traditions.
What is the most important thing that comes to one's mind about weddings? The costumes, of course! One important aspect that differentiates Western and Asian weddings is the culture. While the West has a subtle celebration, Asia's multi colored hues of its culture is very evident in their elaborate, loud and colorful weddings. The bride from the West may wear a designer gown and very few jewellery, whereas the Asian bridal jewellery is more colorful and elaborate. There are many religions in Asia. This difference is evident in their wedding rituals and costumes too.
Gold has always been the preferred metal in most of the Asian weddings. As the yellow metal is considered auspicious, a typical Asian bridal jewellery is considered incomplete without gold ornaments and consisted mostly of traditional ornaments. Most of them in a way were passed on from generations to generations.
This is true of most of the Asian bridal jewellery. Asian bride jewellery mostly consists of bangles and bracelets worn on hand, earrings, finger rings, necklaces and other neck pieces, nose ring, tika which are worn on the head at the parting of the hair, arm band, anklets, cufflinks and so on.
Another aspect of Asian bride jewellery is that it has adapted to changing times. It is not to say that there is no traditional bridal jewellery but if you look at the various changes that an Asian wedding has undergone, you will realize that Asian bride jewellery today is not just about gold but a lot of silver, platinum, precious and semi precious stones are contributing to Asian bride jewellery.
Designs have also undergone a sea of transformation. Earlier, temple jewellery was the main source of inspiration for Asian bridal jewellery but of late nature and anything beautiful has contributed to the present bridal jewellery designs. Not to say that the new generation brides prefer these simple but elegant pieces to the heavy traditional jewellery.
Some of the popular components of Asian bride jewellery are necklaces and bracelets made of crystals, tiaras, cocktail rings, emerald ear rings and bracelets, neck pieces, bracelets and rings made from topaz, emerald, sapphire, etc. Some of the most popular designs have names that will give you an instant description of their designs. For example, Fuschia fantasy necklace and earring set – as the name suggests, the design reminds one of a fantasy world. Then there is pink crystal circles necklace and earring set – there are round pink crystals joined by a lining. Take a vintage choker set in crystal for example. Vintage chokers were mostly made from gold in earlier days but as crystal jewellery is getting popular with bride and families, crystals have come to adorn vintage Asian bridal jewellery too.
