Sapphire is a precious gemstone, which most people will of and is one of four popular gemstones along with emerald, ruby and the diamond. Sapphire is a variety of corundum and the same as ruby all bar the colour. When this gemstone becomes red or very dark pink in colour the gem comes a ruby and all other colours are a sapphire or fancy sapphires.
When people use the word ‘sapphire' this refers to the blue sapphire, as all the other colours of sapphire will be known by their colour i.e. ‘green sapphire' or ‘pink sapphire' These colours of sapphire are also known as ‘fancy sapphires' There is one sapphire known as Padparadscha sapphire which does not follow it's colour name which is very rare and a highly prized pink-orange coloured stone.
Sapphire is one of the toughest gems and has a hardness of 9.0 on the Mohs scale, second in hardness to a diamond with being 10 on the Mohs scale. The Mohs scale is an indication to gemstones hardness against a diamond. The higher the number the tougher and more scratch resistance the gem is. A sapphire is commonly heat treated to enhance the colour of the stone.
Sapphires have always been popular in engagement rings for many years possibly due to the beautiful deep blues or that this gem is September's birthstone. Sapphire jewellery is often set with diamonds too; especially rings and these provide that little extra sparkle and dazzle.

Can't decide on wedding flowers.?
I want to keep it simple, but do not like calla lilies. I do like wildflowers, but no sunflowers. My colors are dark blue (midnight/sapphire) and white. I'm thinking about adding a little accent of yellow, but can't decide. My wedding is in May and because of that, I am feeling very overwhelmed on all the available flowers. I was maybe thinking of white carnations, daises, babies breath and blue roses, but don't know if that is too fancy for what I want. Any suggestions would greately be appriciated.

You've got some lovely ideas there for flowers. Other flowers you might consider are: bachelor's buttons (ironic name, I know, but they're a lovely deep blue and closer to wildflowers than your blue roses), heather (which comes in purple or white), snapdragons (they come in a lucious soft yellow as well as a positive rainbow of pastel shades), forget me nots (pretty, soft blue with yellow centers), or larkspur (comes in blue, purple, pink, white).
I love the idea of sticking mostly with wildflowers rather than the same sorts of flower everyone else carries.
Most of all, have fun putting your flowers together. Choose flowers you like and don't let anyone talk you into those cala lillies if you don't want them.
